In a few months to come, the politics of who takes over from President Muhammadu Buhari will gather more momentum as presidential aspirants among the politicians will come out to declare their intention. Silverbird News 24 takes a look at the heavyweights that may want to throw their caps in the ring for this number one executive position in the country. Ugwuanyi was first elected to the House of Representatives of Nigeria in 2003 and he was the Chairman, House Committee on Marine Transport.Ugwuanyi was a two term Chairman of house committee on Marine Transport. Ugwuanyi also held the position of Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Pensions where he helped enact the Pension Reform Act 2004.
Following his party’s primary election of 8 December 2014 in Enugu, Ugwuanyi won PDP’s gubernatorial ticket, which made him the State’s PDP Governorship Candidate for the 2015 General Elections. However, another PDP gubernatorial aspirant, Senator Ayogu Eze, was displeased with the conduct of the primaries. Eze went to court to challenge the legitimacy of Ugwuanyi’s emergence as the PDP’s flag-bearer for Enugu State Governorship Elections. Eze’s petition was dismissed by Justice Evoh Stephen Chukwu, an Abuja Federal High Court Judge, who ruled that Ugwuanyi’s election in the gubernatorial primary was legitimate and legally binding.

Among them are governors, ministers and other public office holders who had got the pedigrees to lead the country for another four years as the nation struggles with economy and other social challenges.
Umahi entered public service in 2007 as the acting chairman of the Ebonyi State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party. From 2009 to 2011, he served as state chairman of the party. During that term, he served a year on the governing board of the Federal Medical Centre in Asaba as its chairman.
On the 16th day of March, 2019, David Umahi was re-elected as Governor in the Ebonyi state governorship election. He polled 393,343 votes to defeat APC’s Sonny Ogbuoji who polled 81,703 votes.

Following the death of President Umaru Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan was sworn in as the President. and nominated Sambo as Vice President. His official correspondence conveying the nomination of Sambo for the VP position was received by the National Assembly on 15 May 2010. On 18 May 2010, the National Assembly approved the nomination.On 19 May 2010, Namadi Sambo was formally sworn in as the Vice-President of Nigeria, serving in office until 29 May 2015.

In May 2003, after the PDP had again lost the elections in Jigawa State, Lamido claimed that the polls had been rigged in favor of the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP).In August 2006, it was reported that the North West zone of the PDP had rejected Lamido as a candidate for the 2007 governorship election. However, in April 2007, Lamido contested and won the governorship election in Jigawa State with the help of the then incumbent governor, Saminu Turaki who had defected to the People’s Democratic Party in months leading to the election. He took office on 29 May 2007.After the election, his predecessor Saminu Turaki was arraigned for alleged financial mismanagement and initially found it hard to get sureties required to secure his bail. He accused Lamido of intimidating Jigawa leaders not to stand as sureties. Lamido denied the allegations.
