FATAL MINNEAPOLIS SHOOTING: TWO U.S. BORDER PROTECTION AGENTS PLACED ON ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has confirmed that two federal agents involved in the fatal shooting of American citizen Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care nurse in Minneapolis, have been placed on administrative leave as part of standard procedure following the deadly incident.
Pretti was shot and killed on January 24, 2026, during a federal immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis that has since sparked widespread protests and bipartisan criticism.
According to a preliminary Department of Homeland Security (DHS) report sent to Congress, two CBP officers fired their weapons during a struggle with Pretti.
The report states that agents attempted to take Pretti into custody, and during the altercation a Border Patrol agent was heard yelling, “He’s got a gun!” shortly before both officers discharged their firearms. The report makes no definitive claim that Pretti brandished or fired a weapon at agents before he was shot.
