Explosion Rocks Defence Industries Corporation in Kaduna
Kaduna, Nigeria — Tragedy struck on Saturday at the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) in Kaduna when an explosion, suspected to have emanated from gunpowder production, killed two workers — including a military officer — and injured four others.
The incident occurred at the corporation’s factory in the Kurmin Gwari area of Kaduna metropolis during a weekend shift.
Eyewitnesses and residents living near the facility reported that the blast was so powerful it shook surrounding buildings, sparking panic as people fled for safety.
Emergency responders and security personnel were quickly deployed to the scene to contain the situation and evacuate the injured victims, who were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the cause of the explosion, but investigations have begun to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
DICON, established in 1964, is Nigeria’s primary manufacturer of arms and ammunition for the military and other security agencies.
