EU WARNS OF RETALIATION AS TRUMP THREATENS GREENLAND-LINKED TARIFFS

Europe says it is ready to respond forcefully after US President Donald Trump threatened sweeping new tariffs linked to his controversial proposal over Greenland.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has warned that the European Union is “fully prepared to act if necessary” should Washington move ahead with the measures.

The warning comes after President Trump threatened to impose a 10 percent tariff on any and all goods imported from eight European countries, starting 1 February, if they oppose his proposed takeover of Greenland.

French President Emmanuel Macron escalated the rhetoric on Tuesday, saying the EU could consider a range of retaliatory measures — including what he described as a so-called “trade bazooka.”

Meanwhile, President Trump is currently en route to meet world leaders at an international summit, though his arrival has been delayed. Air Force One was forced to turn back earlier today due to what the White House described as a “minor electrical issue.”

Diplomatic tensions are rising sharply as European leaders weigh their response, with trade, sovereignty, and transatlantic relations now firmly in the spotlight.
