Ace comedian Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome popularly known as Ali Baba spoke on his first meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo and how his trade changed after the meeting.
He disclosed this during the Silverbird Man of the year awards at Eko Hotel on Friday where he bagged Lifetime Achievement Award.
As he put it, “Before now, comedy was like the sixth real of entertainment sector. There was movie, there was stage acting and there was music. There were television broadcasters and then you started talking about comedians.
But I want to give a big shout out to people like John Chuwkwu, Bisi Olatilo, Baba Sala, Samanja. Those people paved the way for us and we carried on the torch. Bisi Olatilo gave me the first radio performance and Danladi Bako put me on morning ride.
Bode George introduced me to President Olusegun Obasanjo when he came out from prison. He told him we have a comedian and Obasanjo was expecting Baba Sala.
And when I came out Obasanjo would always interrupt me and Bode George told Obasanjo to sit down and he will enjoy me. From that day Obasnjo put our entertainment as comedy on the front burner.”
