Fast rising Nigerian singer, Azeez Fashola well known as Naira Marley, has been nominated for the prestigious Silverbird Artist of The Year, a category of Man of The Year Award.
As a result of his contribution to the contemporary Nigerian music, Naira Marley who has attracted the attention of music lovers was nominated by the organisers of Silverbird Man Of The Year Award, along side six other Nigerian artistes.
On his background before delving into music, rave of the moment Naira Marley, was born May 9, 1994 in Agege, Lagos State; but he later relocated to Peckham, South London, England at the age of 11.
He started his education at Porlock Hall, before enrolling at Walworth School where he obtained his General Certificate of Secondary Education.
Naira Marley went to Peckham Academy, graduated with a distinction in business, then went to study at Crossways College, which is now Christ the King Sixth Form College, where he completed his business law.
Naira Marley while growing up, discovered more of his passion and interest for music and other aspects of music like MC and Voice over Artist.
The songwriter later went ahead to boost it by singing in 2014 with encouragement from some of his friends, which led to the release of his first track, “Marry Juana” featuring Max Twigz, who is one half of the Cannabis Boyz, before releasing his debut EP Gotta Dance in 2015.
Naira Marley in December 2017, he released “Issa Goal”, featuring Olamide and Lil Kesh, the song went on to become the theme song for the Nigerian National Team at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
On 16 June 2018, a remix of Naira Marley’s “Issa Goal” was released and was sponsored by Coca-Cola, featuring, Olamide, Lil Kesh, Falz, Simi and Slimcase.
His name “Naira Marley” was influenced by his admiration for the late Jamaican singer, Bob Marley, while his dreadlocks is a tribute to Bob Marley.
On 3 May 2019, Naira Marley released “Am I A Yahoo Boy”, featuring Zlatan, and was arrested by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) afterwards.
Naira Marley who sings in English, Pidgin and Yoruba, focusing solely on Afrobeats and hip-hop, released “Soapy”, just days after he was released from prison, on 27 June 2019,
On 11 January 2020, “Soapy” earned him his first major award as a singer, winning “Viewers’ Choice” award at the 2020 Sound City MVP Awards.
On 18 December 2019, Naira Marley released his second EP Lord of Lamba. LOL encompasses Afrobeats and hip-hop. The EP which is a 6-track project features guest appearances from Cblvck, Young John and Mayorkun It’s production was handled by Killertunes, Rexxie and Studio Magic.
During the “Marlian Fest” which was held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos on 30 December 2019, Naira Marley announced his new record label “Marlian Records” with the signing of four artists, Cblvck, Zinoleesky, MohBad and Fabian Blu.
