It is no more news that multi talented and popular Nigerian singer, Wizkid has been nominated amongst seven nominees for the prestigious Artiste of The Year Award, a category of 2019 Man of The Year Award.

As the date for the event draws near, fans and lovers of Wizkid, (Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun) in Nigeria and beyond, are expecting him to clinch the award.

On his music background, it’s amazing that Wizkid; born 16 July 1990, started music at a tender age of the age of 11, and also went further to  release a collaborative album with a couple of his church friends  in a group called the Glorious Five.

On Wizkid’s music journey,  the ‘ “Pakurumo” crooner’s rise to prominence started after he  signed a record deal with Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E) in 2009, and  release of  “Holla at Your Boy”, the lead single from his debut studio album Superstar (2011).

Other songs from the Superstar album are: “Tease Me/Bad Guys”, “Don’t Dull”, “Love My Baby”, “Pakurumo” and “Oluwa Lo Ni.”

On major awards and achievements, Wizkid surprised the world after making record as the first ever Nigerian musician to have over 1 million followers on Twitter, in February 2014.

His self-titled second studio album, Ayo, which was released in September 2014, attracted six singles which are: “Jaiye Jaiye”, “On Top Your Matter”, “One Question”, “Joy”, “Bombay” and “Show You the Money”. Wizkid left E.M.E after his contract expired.

In 2016, Wizkid achieved a global feat after his collaboration with Drake in “One Dance”, which reached number one in 15 countries, including the United States United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.

Moreover, he became the first Afrobeats artist to appear in the 2018 Guinness World Records for his contribution to “One Dance

Amongst his achievements, it is still fresh in the memories of Nigerian music enthusiasts and followers of Wizkid that he was featured on the hits “Brown Skin Girl” (with Beyonce), recently.

Others are:  “Energy (Stay Far Away)” (with Skepta), “Sexy Mama” (with Iyanya), “Slow Down” (with R2Bees), “The Matter” (with Maleek Berry), “Pull Over” (with KCee) and “Bad Girl” (with Jesse Jagz).

The more we go on and on with Wizkid’s successes in music; in Nigeria and the world at large, the closer he comes to winning the Silverbird’s Artist of the Year Award.
