As the date for the prestigious Man of the Year Awards ceremony draws near, Nigerians are also waiting in anticipation to congratulate the 2019 Artiste of the Year.
Talented Nigerian female artiste Tiwatope Savage, well known as Tiwa Savage has made the list of Seven Nigerian music artistes who have been nominated for the Artiste of the Year Award.
Award winning Tiwa Savage; born February 5, 1980 in Isale Eko, Lagos; is not only a singer, but a songwriter and actress. Tiwa Savage sings in English and Yoruba; and her music is a blend of Afrobeats, R&B, pop and hip-hop.
On her music background and education, talented Tiwa Savage who has done backup vocals for artists such as George Michael and Mary J. Blige, began her music career, five years after relocating to London at the age of 11, for her secondary education.
The “Kele Kele Love” crooner grabbed for herself, several awards after moving back to Nigeria to sign with Mavin Records in 2012. In June 2016, Savage signed a management and publishing deal with Roc Nation.
Her debut studio album Once Upon a Time, released on 3 July 2013, was nominated for Best Album of the Year at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards and for Best R&B/Pop Album at The Headies 2014.
The album also has singles such as “Kele Kele Love”, “Love Me (3x)”, “Without My Heart”, “Ife Wa Gbona”, “Folarin”, “Olorun Mi” and “Eminado.”
In November 2018, Savage won Best African Act at the 2018 MTV Europe Music Awards, becoming the first woman to win the category.
In May 2019, she announced her record deal with Universal Music Group and exit from Mavin Records.
Apart from music, Tiwa Savage also embarked on some humanitarian projects such as: raising funds to build schools in Nigeria, youth empowerment and breast cancer screening projects.
With such feats and achievement, it is so clear that this talented renowned female Nigerian artist has contributed a lot to music in Nigeria and globally.
