The Police in Kano State said in Kano on Monday that eight persons died following a bomb blast at the Kano State School of Hygiene located on BUK Road.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Aderenle Shinaba, announced this when he briefed newsmen shortly after visiting the scene.
He added that 12 persons were injured in the explosion which occurred at about 2.05pm.
“There was an explosion in the school this afternoon and it happened right inside the school premises; that is why we had to move in.
“I want to confirm to you that 20 people were moved to the hospital, but eight were confirmed dead and 12 others injured,” he said.
He also said one suspect had been arrested and was undergoing interrogation at the police headquarters.
The commissioner said the vehicle used by the suspect had also been towed to the police headquarters.
“The suspect is in our custody and we will get to know the motive behind the attack and who sent him on this deadly errand,” he said.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up around the area.
Coordinator, National Information Centre, Mike Omeri, had earlier confirmed the explosion and the number of causalities.
