Following the violent protest staged last Friday by the students of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti over alleged meddling of management in the affairs of the Students Union Government SUG, authorities of the institution has shut the school.
According to a press statement, the management of the Federal Polytechnic also suspended activities of the Students’ Union Government, with immediate effect.
Students of the Federal Polytechnic had alleged that, the management had attempted to install its stooges as leaders of the students’ body during its election held last week Thursday.
Meanwhile, the National Association of Polytechnic Students, NAPS says no polytechnic operating in the country would be allowed to proscribe students’ Unionism under any guise.
The NAPS National Senate President, Sunday Adekanbi speaking in Ado-Ekiti however, agreed with the action taken by the management of the Poytechnic, suspending election on campus to checkmate violence that could lead to loss of lives and property.
