Customs Unveils New Guide to Speed Up Green Energy Imports

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched a new handbook to make importing renewable energy equipment easier. This guide is a joint effort with partners like the European Union and Germany. Its goal is to speed up the clearance of items like solar panels, batteries, and wind turbines.

Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, said the handbook will boost legitimate trade and improve efficiency in the country’s growing green energy sector. He explained that as Nigeria invests more in renewables, Customs needs to ensure that trade is fast and secure.

This new initiative is more than just a manual; it’s a tool for economic transformation. It helps remove long-standing barriers that have caused delays at ports. The move supports Nigeria’s goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2060 and bringing electricity to more communities.

International partners praised the effort, calling it a major step for sustainable trade and climate action. The handbook gives clear guidelines for Customs officers, freight agents, and businesses on everything from documentation to tariff classifications, which will attract more foreign investment.
