Court restrains Rivers Administrator from swearing in RSIEC members
A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has restrained the sole administrator of Rivers state, retired Vice Admiral IBOK ETE-IBAS from swearing in the chairman and members of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission RSIEC.
Justice FRANK ONYIRI issued the restraining order after parties in the suit adopted their final written addresses.
The suit was filed by the chairman and members of RSIEC appointed by the suspended Governor SIMINALAYI FUBARA but sacked by the sole administrator, retired vice Admiral IBOK ETE-IBAS on the assumption of office.
The claimants are challenging their sack which they described as illegal, insisting that they were duly appointed after their screening and confirmation by the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The chairman and members of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission said retired Vice Admiral IBOK ETE-IBAS lacked the legal powers to suspend them.
Our judiciary correspondent reports that the defendants in the suit are the sole administrator of Rivers state, retired Vice Admiral IBOK ETE-IBAS,the Accountant General,two generational banks and eleven of others.
Also,the court has fixed the 29th of September 2025 for judgment.
