In an effort to stop the spread of the deadly coronavirus, New York City is closing schools on Monday, while restaurants, bars and other venues will comply a day later.

According to BBC, Mayor Bill de Blasio disclosed that he decided to act because the spread of the virus is like a threat to them.

In his words, “our city is facing an unprecedented threat, and we must respond with a wartime mentality”.

As a plethora of efforts are being rolled out to stop the deadly virus, US have decided to extend its European travel ban to include the UK and Republic of Ireland.

On the damage so far, 69 deaths and 3,774 infections, linked to the pandemic have been confirmed by the US.

Officials also disclosed that, five deaths have been recorded in New York Cityand each of the victims aged 53 to 82 had underlying health conditions.

On the viability for the testing of the virus, a top US health official reavealed last week that the country’s testing system for coronavirus was failing.

As for US, it was disclosed by President Donald Trump that the US has “a tremendous testing set up where people coming in have to be tested”.

At the moment, as tens of millions of children are sent home from school in the US. Correspondents say there is a growing sense of unease and confusion in America, with fears of a run on hospital beds and concern about childcare.
