Children’s Day: First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Calls for United Stand Against Bullying

As Nigeria marked this year’s Children’s Day, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on citizens to rally against bullying and create a safe, supportive environment for children nationwide.

Speaking in commemoration of the occasion, themed “Stand Up: Building a Bullying-Free Generation,” the First Lady emphasized the shared responsibility of society in protecting and empowering the nation’s young minds.

Senator Tinubu noted that bullying — in all its forms — inflicts lasting emotional, social, and academic damage, depriving children of the opportunity to thrive in a nurturing environment.

“Every child deserves to grow up in an environment that is safe, supportive, and free from fear,” she said.

Calling on Nigerians to act decisively, the First Lady urged parents, teachers, policymakers, and community leaders to actively promote values of empathy and kindness.

“As a mother, I call on all Nigerians to take an active stand against bullying — to teach children that strength lies in compassion, and that true leadership begins with looking out for one another,” she said.

Senator Tinubu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to child welfare and urged stakeholders to prioritize policies and initiatives that ensure the physical and emotional well-being of every Nigerian child.

Children’s Day is celebrated annually on May 27 to recognize and promote the rights, welfare, and development of children across the country.
