Cassie Ventura Responds to Diddy’s 50-Month Sentence: “Nothing Can Undo the Trauma”
Singer and model Cassie Ventura has reacted to the 50-month prison sentence handed to her ex-boyfriend, Sean “Diddy” Combs, describing the verdict as a recognition of the pain and trauma she endured.
Combs was sentenced by Judge Arun Subramanian of the Manhattan Federal Court on Friday after being found guilty on prostitution charges, though he was earlier acquitted of more serious sex-trafficking allegations.
In a statement released through her lawyer, Doug Wigdor, Ventura said that “while nothing can undo the trauma caused by Combs, the sentence imposed today recognizes the impact of the serious offenses he committed.”
Wigdor added that Ventura would “continue healing, knowing that her bravery has inspired many survivors.”
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Subramanian condemned Combs’ “pattern of abuse,” telling the court that the musician “used that abuse to get his way,” and commended victims, including Ventura, for their courage in coming forward.
Before the sentencing, Ventura had written to the court describing her years with Combs as “the most traumatic and horrifying chapter of my life.” She revealed that she continues to experience nightmares and flashbacks, and has relocated with her family for safety, fearing retaliation.
Combs, in his statement before sentencing, apologized to Ventura and another woman identified as “Jane.” He admitted, “I was dead wrong for putting my hands on the woman I loved. My domestic violence will always be a heavy burden that I will forever carry.”
Outside the courthouse, attorney Gloria Allred, who represents several of Combs’ accusers, said the outcome was “a necessary step toward accountability,” adding that many victims had feared he might walk free.
Combs, 55, will serve just over four years in federal prison and will remain under supervised release after completing his sentence.
