BREAKING: Supreme Court Dismisses Ighodalo’s Appeal, Affirms Okpebholo as Edo Governor
The Supreme Court of Nigeria has affirmed Senator Monday Okpebholo as the duly elected Governor of Edo State, dismissing the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo.
In a unanimous judgment delivered on Thursday, the apex court upheld the earlier decisions of the Election Petitions Tribunal and the Court of Appeal, which had declared Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, as the valid winner of the 2024 Edo Governorship Election.
Justice Emmanuel Agim, who read the lead judgment, described Ighodalo’s appeal as lacking in merit and upheld the election as credible, free, and fair.
The ruling puts an end to the months-long legal tussle that followed the hotly contested election.
