BREAKING: SDP Expels El-Rufai, Slams 30-Year Ban
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expelled former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, from its fold, slamming a 30-year ban on his involvement in party activities or affiliation.
In a statement released by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) on Thursday, El-Rufai was accused of:
Falsely parading himself as a member of the SDP
Manipulating internal party processes for personal gain
Attempting to destabilise the party through “unconstitutional actions and deceptive political manoeuvres”
The statement added that the expulsion takes immediate effect, and El-Rufai is barred from associating with the SDP in any form or capacity until 2055.
> “El-Rufai’s actions are not only detrimental to the unity and integrity of the SDP, but they also undermine the democratic values upon which our party is built,” the NWC stated.
The development comes amid ongoing realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several high-profile politicians reportedly exploring alternative platforms amid deepening internal rifts in major parties.
El-Rufai is yet to issue a formal response.
