The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, in a London hospital after a prolonged illness.

According to an official statement from the Ministry of Interior, the public holiday is to enable Nigerians to pay their last respects and participate in national mourning as the former President is laid to rest in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, on Tuesday.

President Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s civilian leader from 2015 to 2023 and was previously a military Head of State from 1983 to 1985, will be buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
