Breaking: Akpoti-Uduaghan Storms Senate, Resumes Legislative Duties

The Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has resumed duties at the Senate after serving out a six-month suspension

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s office was reopened by the Sergeant-at-Arms with support from security agencies, paving the way for her return to the Senate.

She was suspended by the Senate in March, 2025, following a contentious plenary session and allegations of misconduct.

However, a Federal High Court ruled that her suspension was unconstitutional and excessive,

The court also imposed a fine of ₦5 million on Akpoti-Uduaghan for contempt of court over a social media post that breached an existing interim injunction.¹

Although the Senate had initially set conditions for her return, including apologising and paying a fine, Akpoti-Uduaghan maintains she wouldn’t issue an apology

A motion is expected to be moved during the plenary session on October 7, 2025, to formally reinstate Akpoti-Uduaghan.
