American commentator, Karine Jean-Pierre has been named by President Joe Biden as his new top spokesperson.
Ms Jean-Pierre’s appointment has remained significant in America’s history because this is the first time a black, or openly gay, person has held the role.
Since Mr Biden was elected, the 44-year-old has served as the administration’s principal deputy press secretary.
At the end of next week, she will replace 43-year-old outgoing press secretary, Jen Psaki in the top role.
There are no doubts that the role is a huge one since press secretaries are saddled with the responsibilities of conducting daily news briefings with White House reporters.
In response to the development, she has called her successor a “remarkable woman” with “a moral core”, on Twitter.
