Bayelsa State Assembly Approves Peter Akpe’s Appointment as New Deputy Governor

The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has approved the appointment of Peter Akpe as the Deputy Governor of the state.

The Assembly gave the approval during plenary on Tuesday.

A native of Sagbama Local government in Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Akpe’s appointment follows the death of erstwhile deputy governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, in December, 2025.

Peter Akpe brings his wealth of experience in governance and administration to the role, having served as a two-term member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and as a commissioner under the Seriake Dickson administration.

Until his appointment, Dr Peter Akpe was Chief of Staff to the Bayelsa State governor, Douye Diri.
