ASUU SEEKS NASS INTERVENTION TO AVERT NATIONWIDE STRIKE

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has appealed to the National Assembly, religious leaders, traditional rulers, students, and other stakeholders to urge the Federal Government to address its demands and prevent a looming nationwide strike.

Professor Adeola Egbedokun, ASUU Akure Zone Coordinator, voiced serious concerns during a press conference at the Federal University Oye Ekiti on Tuesday. He criticized the Bola Tinubu administration for its alleged neglect of ASUU’s demands over the past two years, pushing lecturers to their breaking point.

Egbedokun highlighted key issues, including the non-implementation of the 2009 ASUU-FGN Agreement, inadequate funding for universities, the need for system revitalization, unpaid salary arrears of 25–35 percent, delayed promotions spanning over four years, unremitted third-party deductions, and the victimization of lecturers in certain institutions.
