Anambra Election: Obidient Movement Unveils Situation Room for Close Monitoring
Awka, Anambra State – The Obidient Movement Worldwide, a coalition of supporters of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has launched a digital situation room to monitor the Anambra State governorship election holding today, Saturday, November 8, 2025.
Dr. Yunusa Tanko, leader of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, announced the initiative in a statement posted on his verified social media handles early Saturday morning.
> “Our situation room for the Anambra 2025 Gubernatorial Election is live by 8 a.m. tomorrow, November 8, 2025,” Tanko wrote, urging members of the movement to join via social media platforms for real-time updates and analysis.
According to Tanko, the situation room will provide live reports, verify information from polling units, and engage citizens in monitoring the conduct of the electoral process to ensure transparency.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed that 16 candidates are contesting in the election, which is expected to be one of the most closely watched since the 2023 general polls.
As in previous elections, members of the Obidient Movement have declared full support for the Labour Party candidate, Dr. George Moghalu, who has been actively campaigning across the state with the backing of Peter Obi.
During a campaign rally earlier in the week, Peter Obi — a former governor of Anambra State — called on INEC to guarantee a free, fair, and credible election.
> “All those involved in the exercise, in one way or another, are my friends. I have respect for all of them,” Obi said.
“But as a member of the Labour Party, I’m supporting my party’s candidate, though not to the extent of vote buying or any other malpractice. Let everyone vote according to their conscience.”
The Obidient Movement’s involvement marks a continuation of the civic activism that defined Nigeria’s 2023 general elections, with the group emphasizing accountability, youth participation, and digital citizen monitoring.
INEC has reiterated that election materials were distributed across all 21 local government areas of Anambra State under heavy security supervision, assuring that the commission is prepared to conduct a credible poll.
