ANAMBRA 2025: SOLUDO WINS IN 19 OF 21 LGAS AS INEC SUSPENDS COLLATION

Awka, Anambra State — The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and incumbent governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, is coasting to victory in the 2025 governorship election, having won 19 out of the 21 local government areas so far announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

As of press time, Soludo had polled a total of 389,789 votes, far ahead of his closest rival, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, who garnered 91,592 votes. The Labour Party (LP) followed with 10,366 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recorded 1,230 votes.

The State Returning Officer, Prof. Edogah Omoregie, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), suspended collation in the early hours of Sunday, announcing that the process would resume by 6:00 a.m. at the INEC headquarters in Awka.

According to INEC’s official figures, Soludo secured overwhelming leads in major LGAs including Aguata, Awka South, Njikoka, Anaocha, Nnewi North, Onitsha North and South, and Orumba North and South.

With only two LGAs left to be announced, the APGA candidate’s commanding lead makes him the clear frontrunner in the tightly watched contest.

The collation is expected to resume at dawn, after which INEC may officially declare the winner of the election.
