ALIZERA ARAFI NAMED IRAN’S INTERIM SUPREME LEADER FOLLOWING AYATOLLAH KHAMENEI’S DEATH

Ayatollah Alireza Arafi has been appointed as Iran’s interim Supreme Leader following the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a joint US-Israeli airstrike.

Arafi, a 67-year-old senior Shia cleric, will serve alongside President Masoud Pezeshkian and Chief Justice Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje’i on a temporary leadership council until a permanent successor is chosen by the Assembly of Experts.

Arafi is a member of the Guardian Council and the Assembly of Experts, and has previously served as the head of Al-Mustafa International University.

He’s known for advocating modernisation and technological advancement in Iran, including adapting to artificial intelligence developments.

Arafi’s appointment comes after Khamenei’s death sparked widespread reactions, with U.S. President, Donald Trump, claiming responsibility for the operation and Iran vowing retaliation.
