Akwa Ibom Governor Finds New Home in APC as VP Shettima Extends Warm Welcome
Vice President Kashim Shettima today extended a warm embrace to Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, assuring him and his supporters that their move from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would be a decision free of regret. Speaking in Uyo at a grand reception, VP Shettima relayed a direct message from President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing that the APC is a welcoming home where Governor Eno’s position will be respected and unquestioned.
Shettima lauded President Tinubu as a “bridge-builder” and a “deep-rooted democrat,” highlighting his past sacrifices in defending Nigeria’s democracy. He recounted how Tinubu stood firm even when faced with political isolation as Lagos State Governor, turning adversity into innovation. This steadfastness, Shettima assured the new entrants, is the core of the APC’s leadership, promising a party that rewards merit and protects its members through all challenges.
Governor Eno, in turn, articulated his decision as a strategic alignment with President Tinubu’s “renewed hope” agenda, aimed at supporting ongoing economic reforms and accelerating critical infrastructure projects like the long-awaited Deep Sea Port in Akwa Ibom. The APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio also welcomed the governor, emphasizing the move as a significant step towards national unity and development.
The event, marked by a massive turnout, was hailed as a historic moment for the South-South region, signifying a renewed commitment to working in unison with the federal government. With the handing over of the APC flag and broom to Governor Eno, the message was clear: Akwa Ibom is now firmly on the path of progressive politics, ready to contribute to and benefit from the nation’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
