Kano Pillars have been fined N8m and their captain, Rabiu Ali, handed a 12-match ban following his involvement in the crowd disturbances and harassment of referee Adebimpe Quadri in one of the fixtures of Match Day4 of the Nigeria Professional Football League Championship Playoff on Monday.
Supporters of the club invaded the pitch, damaged perimeter fences and advertising boards, while hauling objects and missiles at the VIP stands at the end of the fixture between the club and Enugu Rangers, which ended 1-1.
The League Management Company charged Pillars for failing to control and ensure proper conduct of their players and officials, who accosted the match referee.
The club was also charged for the violent conduct of their supporters, which the LMC said was “capable of bringing the league to disrepute.”
Ali was charged by the LMC for aggressively approaching Quadri, which incited others to commit acts of violence and misconduct.
Pillars were ordered to play their next three home matches behind closed doors. They could also forfeit three points next season if they breach the charges, the LMC stated.
