AFCON 2025:- Eto’o starts new tenure on controversial note, sacks Marc Brys, drops Onana, Abubakar
FECAFOOT President Samuel Eto’o has begun his second tenure in dramatic fashion with a major shake-up in the Indomitable Lions setup.
In a stunning move on Monday, Cameroon announced the dismissal of head coach Marc Brys, just days before the commencement of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The decision comes after weeks of internal tension between FECAFOOT and the sports ministry over the management of the national team.
As part of the sweeping changes, goalkeeper André Onana and captain Vincent Aboubakar have been dropped from the squad ahead of the continental tournament.
Both players are considered key figures in the team, making their exclusion one of the biggest shocks in Cameroonian football in recent years.
Eto’o, who was re-elected as president of Cameroon FA last week amid controversy, appears determined to restructure the national team as the Lions prepare for AFCON 2025.
The Indomitable Lions last won AFCON in 2017 and will hope to put their off-field turbulence behind them as they pursue continental glory.
