Abuja PDP Secretariat Remains Sealed Despite Tinubu’s Reopening Order

The national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja remains sealed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), despite a reported directive from President Bola Tinubu ordering its immediate reopening.

A visit to the PDP National Secretariat at Wadata Plaza, Wuse Zone 5, around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, revealed that both entrances to the complex are still barricaded. Staff and private security personnel were seen outside the premises, unable to gain access.

The continued closure comes 48 hours after reports emerged that President Tinubu had directed the unsealing of the PDP office, along with other affected properties, and granted a 14-day grace period for the clearance of outstanding dues.

Contrary to that order, the secretariat remains inaccessible. However, a party source confirmed to The Punch that negotiations are ongoing to resolve the impasse and ensure the facility is reopened as soon as possible.

The sealing of the secretariat has sparked criticism from PDP members and civil society groups, who describe it as a violation of democratic space and a potential breach of opposition rights in a multi-party democracy.

The FCTA has not yet issued an official statement regarding the delay in compliance with the President’s directive.
