Breaking: Rivers LG Poll: Two RSIEC Commissioners Resign Over Supreme Court Verdict

The fresh local government election directed by Governor Siminalayi Fubara suffers a setback as two commissioners in the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), resign their appointments

The former appointees, Professor Simeon Emenike Well and Dr Lazbery Nyebuchi Nnah, cited the annulment of the October 5, 2024 local government election by the Supreme court and unfolding events in the commission as reasons for their resignation.

It is unclear if the fresh poll slated for Sunday, March 9, 2025 will still hold.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara, ordered the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to conduct a fresh local government poll following the Supreme Court judgment which declared the election conducted in the state on October 5, 2024, as invalid
