Health Care: FG Approves New Retirement Age For Health Professionals

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate says President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the extension of service for clinically-skilled health professionals in the country, raising the retirement age from 60 to 65 years of age.

The Coordinating Minister said the President’s prioritization of enhanced benefits and support for health care professionals in Nigeria comes at a time when 60,000 health workers are being re-trained in 2025 following the re-training of over 53,000 Nigerian health workers in 2024.

Addressing leaders of health sector unions in Abuja, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate commended the dedication of health workers across the country and emphasized the government’s efforts in fostering a constructive relationship with unions, while informing the gathering that President Bola Tinubu has additionally approved the disbursement of seven months of outstanding COVID-19 hazard allowances.
