World’s Most Premature Twins Born At 22 Weeks

Canadian babies, Adiah and Adrial Nadarajah haveĀ  set a record for the most premature and lightest twins ever born in 22 weeks.

The twins were named by Guinness as the world’s most premature twins.

Overtaking the previous record of 125 days early set in 2018 by twins in the US state of Iowa, Adiah and Adrial Nadarajah were born at 126 days early.

According to Guinness says, if the children had been born even one hour earlier than 22 weeks, life-saving measures would not have been attempted by the hospital.

Although, a full-term pregnancy is usually 40 weeks, making them 18 weeks premature.

While the babies have come to stay, the doctors reports to expectant parents Shakina Rajendram and Kevin Nadarajah was completely different from their expectation.
She said that when she began labour at just 21 weeks and five days, doctors told her that the babies “were not viable” and had “0% chance of survival”.

Meanwhile, it was her second pregnancy, after she lost her first just a few months earlier in the same hospital near their home in Ontario.

While sharing her experience, Rajendram said, ā€œEven in that moment, as I was hearing those words come out of the doctorā€™s mouth, I could still feel the babies very much alive within me. And so for me, I just wasnā€™t able to comprehend how babies who felt very much alive within me could not be viable.ā€
