Resident Doctors Demand Release of Kidnapped Colleague, after 7 Months in Captivity

The Association of Resident Doctors in Nigeria is urging the federal government to intervene immediately to secure the release of their kidnapped colleague, Dr. Ganiyat Popoola. She was abducted on December 27, 2023, along with her husband and 16-year-old nephew.

The association made this demand during a peaceful protest staged in Kaduna, calling for swift action to ensure Dr. Popoola’s safe return.

The kidnapping of Dr. Ganiyat Popoola has sent shockwaves of sadness through the medical community, her family, and friends. They are now urgently appealing to security agencies and the presidency to step in and intensify efforts to secure her safe release. The situation is a distressing one, and all involved are holding on to hope for a swift and successful intervention.

Amidst growing concerns about the nation’s security and economic instability, finding a lasting solution to these challenges has become a pressing priority.

Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, a dedicated staff member of the Department of Ophthalmology at the National Eye Care Centre in Kaduna state, was kidnapped from her residence and has spent over 7 months in captivity, despite her husband being released.
