Italian Serie A club, AS Roma have sacked José Mourinho and his coaching staff on Tuesday with “immediate effect.”
The club announced that the former Chelsea manager who was appointed Roma coach in May 2021 left the Serie A club after he was fired.
Mourinho’s sack comes after Roma’s 3-1 loss to AC Milan on Sunday, leaving sending the club to the ninth in the Serie A table.
Mourinho, 60, has guided the Italian team to a European Conference League final in 2022. He has also achieved the feat of taking the club to the Europa League final but lost on penalties to Sevilla.
The club’s owners, Dan and Ryan Friedkin reacted to the sack in a in a statement.
They said, “We would like to thank José on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club,”
“We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club.
“We wish José and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.”
