The songs of Nigerian singer, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, banned from airing on a privately owned radio broadcast station, Fresh FM 106.9 FM, Ado in Ekiti State on Tuesday morning till further notice and Agidigbo FM, located in Ibadan.
This development was disclosed on the radio station in a post shared on its Instagram handle (@freshfm1069adoekiti) and signed by its Head of production and Music Content, Oluwaseunfunmi Williams.
The ban was triggered by the death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji, well known as MohBad, and criticism surrounding Naira Marley.
Meanwhile, a radio broadcast station, Splash FM 105.5 Ibadan, Oyo state, had banned the playing of songs by Naira Marley, Earlier, on Monday.
Going memory lane on the death of the artiste, Mohbad, 27, a former signee of Naira Marley at Marlian Records died on Tuesday.
The post by the radio station read: “Following the public outcry from the general public trailing the death of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad), the alleged victimisation from different videos going viral and the involvement of members of his previous record label (Marlian records), fresh 106.9 fm has suspended the airplay of all songs and contents under the banner of Marlian Records.”
The other private radio station in Ibadan, which also banned playing of the artiste’s song for the same reason is Agidigbo FM, located in Ibadan.
Further attempts were made to uncover the truth behind the artiste’s death on Monday as the Lagos State Police Command, set up a special investigative team to probe the death of Mohbad. The command is expected to submit an interim report within two weeks.
According to a document signed by and made available to The PUNCH by the Lagos spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that the team, consisting of 13 members, is “to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of the victim, identify witnesses, culprits if any and any person that will be helpful to the investigative process and deploy processes and other technological tools to aid the investigative course in line with the relevant provisions of the Nigeria Constitution and the State Laws.”
