Manchester United’s Harry Maguire has reacted after he was stripped off the club’s captaincy.
The defender, said that he is “extremely disappointed” to lose the club captaincy but vowed to stay committed on the pitch.
The former Leicester City defender was ‘angry, shocked and upset’ when Man United manager Erik ten Hag told him at the training ground over the weekend that he would not be the Red Devils captain next season, SunSport reports.
Maguire who was made captain by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in January 2020 when Ashley Young left to join Inter Milan joined United for £80 million in 2019.
Interestingly, he was the first choice for most of his first three seasons with the club, but when Erik ten Hag arrived in 2022, he was pushed down the pecking order after the signing of Lisandro Martinez from Ajax.
On the way forward for the England international, sources have disclosed that he could find an escape route in Chelsea this summer after about half of the Premier League clubs tried to sign him on loan in January .
Man United at the moment have set an ambitious asking price of £50million, which is likely to drop towards £30million.
Inter Milan and Saudi clubs, Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal are other clubs that have interest in signing the defender.
Meanwhile, the 30-year-old has two years left on his £200,000-a-week Man United contract.
