Super Eagles of Nigeria striker, Victor Osimhen, has emerged as the Best African Player at the Ghana Football Awards, beating Treble winner, Riyadh Mahrez and Mohammed Salah to the award.
This feat was achieved after the 24-year-old made history to help Napoli win the Serie A title for the first time in over three decades, scoring 31 goals in all competitions last season for the same club.
Apart from his latest award at the ceremony in Ghana, the Super Eagles has broken other records: he won the top scorer award with 26 goals, surpassed the former World Player of the Year George Weah’s long-time record as the African with the highest number of goals in Serie A history.
He also played a vital role in the Eagles’ recent AFCON match which they beat Sierra Leone 3-2 to qualify for next year’s AFCON in Ivory Coast. Interestingly, he scored a brace in the same match and has also been awarded the best striker in the Italian Serie A.
In appreciation for the support of fans Osimhen, in a video online, acknowledged the organisers for the award and promised to make Africa proud.
