This year’s edition of the annual Felabration music festival in memory and celebration of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti will hold from Monday, October 9 to Sunday, October 15, 2023.
Organisers of Felabration, a week-long celebration of Fela’s legacy as the Afrobeat genre creator and a renowned human rights activist, announced in a press release made available to journalists in Lagos on Friday, June 16, 2023.
The inspiration for this year’s theme tagged ‘Question Jam Answer,’ is a classic record composed by Fela and released in 1972.
Considering the meaning of the song and its relevance in the current political dispensation, ‘Question Jam Answer,’ can be related to the socio-political mood of the country after the general election, where people are searching for answers to questions asked.
Through art, dance, fashion and music, Felabration 2023 will present an authentic and vivid showcase of African music, creativity and resilience.
Other notable activities that make the festival interesting festival interesting is The Senior Secondary Schools Debate, The Fela Debates (Symposium), The Afrobics Dance Competition, The Artwork Competition, The Dress Fela Fashion Competition The Musical Concert and others.
Organisers of the event have disclosed that notable music artistes from Nigeria and all over the world have been registered to perform at the New Afrika Shrine in Ikeja, Lagos.
Felabration which hosts tens of thousands of attendees annually is Nigeria’s biggest music festival in contemporary times and was cconceived in 1998 by Yeni Anikulapo-Kuti to honour the legacy of her father.
Its also an event is organised by the Felabration Organising Committee and official tourist destination of The Lagos State Government, which is a major event sponsor.
