The Flying Eagles have crashed out of the ongoing U-20 World Cup in Sunday Argentina after losing 1-0 to South Korea in the quarter-final stage at the Santiago Del Estero.
The quest for the Nigerians to win their first-ever U-20 World Cup could not be achieved after the loss to South Korea.
The two sides were separated with a goal from Choi Seok-hyeon in the extra-time. The win for the Asians takes them the semi-final of the tournament where they will play against European champions, Italy.
Interestingly, Nigerian team started the match with enthusiasm and zeal to win and almost paid off for them as they almost scored the first goal just two minutes into the game.
The match was highly competitive but Bosso’s boys were driven by the zeal to be victorious which made them took charge of the match in the eight minute as Abel Ogwueche almost found the back of the net for Nigeria.
Regardless of the pace of the Red Devils the Flying Eagles kept on giving their counterpart serious pressure.
The was characterised more by a change of pattern by the head coach Kim Eun-jung who sent in Bae Jun-ho to replace Kang Seong-jin who made the game for the Nigerians in the attack.
Despite the early change from the coach, the Nigerians remained the team looking likely to score and captain Bameyi drew out a fine save from Jun-hong after hitting a long-range shot with venom, but the goalkeeper was equal to the task to keep the score level.
The drama continued until four minutes into extra time, when South Korea took the lead with their first shot on target in the encounter, Lee Young-jun’s corner-kick headed in by Choi Seok-hyeon.
With so much efforts to level up the score, Nigeria’s Emmanuel wasted the last opportunity to equalise.
