Buhari Commissions Dangote Refinery In Lagos

President Muhammadu Buhari has commissioned the 650,000 barrels per day Dangote refinery located at the Lekki free zone near Lagos.

Dignitaries and notable personalities present at the commissioning are president of Togo, Gnassingbé Eyadéma; Senegalese president Macky Sall; Niger Republic president, Mohamed Bazoum; and Chadian president, Mahamat Déby.

Sources have revealed that the refinery, built by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote is said to be the largest in the world with 1,100 kilometres and will handle 3 billion standard cubic foot of gas per day.

This development comes at a time the Nigerian government is planning to remove petrol subsidy in the second half of the year.

On one of the benefits of the refinery, there are hopes that the pipeline infrastructure will end fuel imports largely on the completion of the Dangote refinery.

Considered as one of Nigeria’s single largest investments, the refinery with a 435-megawatt power station, deep seaport and fertilizer unit, is expected to meet 100 per cent of the Nigerian requirement of all refined products and also have a surplus of each of these products for export.

Apart from the processing of Nigerian crude, the refinery also has the ability to also process other crudes, Euro-V quality gasoline and diesel, as well as jet fuel and polypropylene.

According to the management of Dangote refinery, the design complies with the World Bank, US EPA, European emission norms and the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) emission/effluent norms.
