TRABZONSPOR:- Onuachu breaks 14-year goal record
Paul Onuachu continued his prolific scoring run for Trabzonspor on Monday, netting a brace in their 3–1 victory over Kayserispor to break a 14-year club scoring record in the Turkish Süper Lig.
The brace ensured the Black Sea side maintained pressure on league leaders Fenerbahçe S.K. and Galatasaray S.K. in the title race.
More significantly, the goals saw Onuachu become the first Trabzonspor player in 14 years to score in seven consecutive league matches, equalling the record set by Burak Yılmaz during the 2011/12 season.
The 31-year-old forward has now scored 22 goals and provided two assists across all competitions this season, which underlines his importance to coach Fatih Tekke’s side.
In the league alone, Onuachu has been involved in nearly 40 per cent of Trabzonspor’s 51 goals, a contribution that has kept the club firmly in contention for a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Onuachu has achieved the 20+ goal milestone in a single season five times in his career, having previously accomplished this feat with KRC Genk and FC Midtjylland.
Trabzonspor had also dominated the reverse fixture against Kayserispor earlier in the season, winning 4–0 with Onuachu contributing both a goal and an assist.
