President Tinubu Decorates Tunji Disu as 23rd Acting Inspector-General of Police

ABUJA – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially decorated the newly appointed Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, with his new rank. The ceremony took place at the State House on Wednesday, marking a pivotal transition in the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force.

The decoration occurred during an expanded swearing-in ceremony at approximately 3:00 p.m. local time. The 59-year-old Lagos-born officer arrived at the Presidential Villa shortly before the event for a brief meeting with the President. With this appointment, Disu makes history as Nigeria’s 23rd Inspector-General of Police.
Disu’s elevation follows the sudden exit of the former IGP, Kayode Egbetokun.

According to a statement released by Presidential Spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu approved Egbetokun’s resignation on Tuesday after he cited “pressing family considerations” in an official letter.

The high-profile event was attended by top government and security officials, signaling a smooth transfer of power within the force. Notable attendees included National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the immediate past IGP Kayode Egbetokun, the Brigade Commander, other senior security brass, and the parents of the new Acting IGP.

As the new police chief takes the mantle, expectations are high regarding his strategy for addressing Nigeria’s internal security challenges and continuing the reforms within the force.
