FCT Polls: Tinubu Commends Wike, APC Over Area Council Victories
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, following the electoral success of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just-concluded Area Council elections in Abuja.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted polls across the six area councils of the FCT on Saturday, alongside by-elections in parts of Rivers and Kano states. The APC secured a majority of the contested seats.
In a statement issued Sunday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu congratulated victorious candidates and praised electoral officials, security agencies, and voters for what he described as a peaceful and credible process.
The President also singled out Wike—despite his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—for commendation, stating that the minister’s infrastructural and administrative performance in the FCT contributed to the APC’s electoral gains in the territory.
According to the statement, Tinubu urged newly elected council officials to govern with humility, patriotism, and dedication, describing their mandates as a sacred trust from the electorate.
He further described the elections as a positive signal for Nigeria’s democratic development and called on INEC to continue strengthening electoral processes nationwide.
