FCT Council Polls: ADC Defeats APC at AMAC Polling Unit

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) to secure its first polling unit in the ongoing Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory.

The opposition party won Polling Unit 076, Sani Abacha Estate, Wuse Zone 4, within the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), where its chairmanship candidate, Moses Paul, voted.

Results announced at the unit showed ADC polled seven votes out of 10 cast, while APC secured two votes. One ballot was rejected.
The election recorded generally low voter turnout across parts of the council.

Speaking after voting, Paul alleged intimidation of ADC agents in some wards and linked the low turnout to movement restrictions earlier announced by FCT authorities.

“I have lived in AMAC for about 40 years and have never witnessed this kind of development. It felt like a state of emergency over what I consider unwarranted,” he said.

He commended electoral officials at his polling unit for professionalism but claimed ADC agents in Takum Shara and parts of Kabusa Ward, including Dogongada and Shereti, were threatened and intimidated.

According to him, some agents were allegedly warned of possible harm, which he said was aimed at suppressing voters and influencing the process in favour of the ruling party.
The ADC candidate also alleged vote buying in parts of the capital, describing the practice as harmful to democratic principles.

Despite the challenges, Paul expressed confidence of victory and urged residents to resist intimidation and demand accountable leadership.
