Tinubu Administration Committed to Fully Equipping Military to End Insecurity – VP Shettima
ABUJA – Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to empowering the Nigerian Armed Forces, stating that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is determined to provide the military with the necessary tools to subdue the nation’s security challenges.
The Vice President made these remarks on Friday during a special Juma’at prayer held at the National Mosque in Abuja. The service was part of the activities commemorating the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, a day set aside annually to honor both serving personnel and those who paid the supreme price for the nation.
Addressing the congregation, Senator Shettima paid tribute to the fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity and protect the lives of its citizens. He expressed confidence that under President Tinubu’s dynamic and purposeful leadership, the country is on a path toward overcoming its current hurdles.
“Our prayer is for Allah to forgive the rest of our deceased officers and men, and may God grant their families the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses,” the Vice President stated.
This year’s observance carries a renewed significance following the renaming of the event to the “Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.” The change was implemented to reflect a dual purpose: celebrating the dedication of active-duty personnel while maintaining the traditional solemnity of remembering the fallen. Vice President Shettima emphasized that the administration’s goal is not just to manage the crisis but to end it.
“We pray to the Almighty Allah to continue to protect and empower our armed forces to subdue all the crises that are bedeviling our nation. In sha Allah, in the fullness of time, we shall have an enduring peace and prosperity in Nigeria,” he added.
The Juma’at prayer marks a key milestone in the lead-up to the main ceremonies on January 15. The Federal Government uses this period to rally national support for the military and to raise funds for the welfare of veterans and the families of deceased soldiers. With the 2026 celebrations now underway, the government’s message remains clear: the security of the nation remains the top priority, and the men and women in uniform will have the full backing of the state to restore total peace.
