The Rivers State House of Assembly has initiated fresh impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu.
This marks the third impeachment move against Governor Fubara, following earlier attempts on Monday, October 30, 2023, and Monday, March 17, 2025.
In the latest action, twenty-six lawmakers accused the governor of gross misconduct, including spending public funds without an approved budget.
At plenary on Thursday , the Majority Leader of the House, Major Jack, read the notice of allegations against the governor.
The accusations include the demolition of the Assembly Complex, extra-budgetary spending, withholding funds meant for the Assembly Service Commission, and refusal to comply with a Supreme Court ruling on the financial autonomy of the legislature.
The House also resolved that it will not consider the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework or the 2026 Appropriation Bill until the allegations of gross misconduct against the governor are addressed.
These resolutions were reached during an emergency sitting held on Thursday, shortly after lawmakers returned from recess.
