Christmas 2025: President Tinubu Vows to Protect Religious Freedom, Urges National Unity
ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reassured Nigerians of his administration’s “unyielding commitment” to safeguarding religious freedom and national stability in a 2025 Christmas goodwill message released from the State House on Wednesday. In a statement marking the birth of Jesus Christ, the President called on citizens of all faiths to embrace the shared values of love and humanity, emphasizing that no Nigerian should suffer for their religious beliefs.
Addressing the nation on the occasion of the “Holy Day,” President Tinubu highlighted his ongoing efforts to curb religious intolerance. He noted that since assuming office in 2023, he has prioritized the security and unity of the country, stating that he remains committed to doing everything within his power to enshrine religious freedom and protect all people of different faiths from violence. He further revealed that his administration has been engaging with prominent leaders from Nigeria’s two major religious groups to address concerns regarding insecurity, promising to strengthen collaboration between the government and religious institutions to prevent conflict.
The President paid tribute to the contributions of the Christian community toward Nigeria’s progress, specifically citing their role in caring for the vulnerable and promoting peace in their communities. He described the season as a reminder that, despite daunting challenges, the message of the Gospel provides hope in the midst of despair. He urged Nigerians to reflect on the significance of Jesus Christ’s birth as the Prince of Peace, beyond the mere festivities of the season.
With millions of Nigerians traveling across the country to reunite with family, the President issued a specific plea for caution on the nation’s highways, urging citizens to exercise patience and maintain discipline on the roads to ensure safe travels. President Tinubu concluded his message by reaffirming his faith in the resilience of the Nigerian people, maintaining that the right to live, worship, and pursue aspirations in safety is a constitutional guarantee. He expressed confidence in building a “greater Nigeria” for upcoming generations and wished the nation a prosperous New Year in advance.
