SUPER EAGLES OPEN AFCON 2025 CAMPAIGN WITH HARD-FOUGHT WIN OVER TANZANIA
The Super Eagles secured a 2–1 victory over Tanzania’s Taifa Stars in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 Group C opener at the Complexe Sportif de Fes on Tuesday.
The match began at a lively pace, with Nigeria asserting early control of possession and dictating play, although Tanzania threatened on several occasions with quick counterattacks.
The breakthrough came in the 36th minute when defender Semi Ajayi rose highest to power a header home from Alex Iwobi’s lofted cross, handing Nigeria a 1–0 advantage heading into halftime.
