PDP CRISIS DEEPENS AS TWO RIVERS SENATORS DEFECT TO APC
The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened on Tuesday following the defection of two senators from Rivers State—Allwell Onyesoh and Barinada Mpigi—to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers cited irreconcilable internal divisions within the PDP, as well as the need to align with the Federal Government in order to effectively serve their constituents.
Their defections were announced separately on the floor of the Senate during plenary, where both senators formally crossed from the opposition to the governing party in the presence of a high-powered APC delegation from the national and state levels.
Senator Onyesoh, who represents the Rivers East Senatorial District, said his decision came after wide consultations with political leaders and key stakeholders in his constituency.
