AT LEAST 50 KILLED, INCLUDING 33 CHILDREN, IN DRONE ATTACK ON SUDAN KINDERGARTEN
A drone attack struck a kindergarten in the town of Kalogi, South Kordofan region, on Thursday, killing at least 50 people, among them 33 children, according to medical and military sources.
The Sudan Doctors’ Network and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) – the paramilitary group engaged in a nearly three-year civil war with the army – of carrying out the deadly strike. No immediate response has been issued by the RSF regarding the allegation.
In a counter-accusation on Friday, the RSF claimed the Sudanese army launched a separate drone attack on a crowded market and fuel depot at the Adre border crossing with Chad in the Darfur region.
Sudan has been plunged into conflict since April 2023, when fighting erupted between the RSF, led by Mohamed Hamdan “Hemedti” Dagalo, and the regular army under General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, following the collapse of a fragile power-sharing arrangement between the former allies.
The war has triggered one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, displacing millions and bringing large parts of the country to the brink of famine. Independent verification of battlefield claims remains difficult due to restricted access and communication blackouts in many areas.
